The use of drugs has become inherent in sports that most
athletes use them, and accept it is as normal, but it is not and it’s illegal.
The static image I selected is a cartoon. It is not a photograph of a
particular athlete or one would attribute it to that person but keeping it as a
cartoon makes one think of athletes in general, but in particular, runners
(which is slightly misguided because all type of athletes use them).
The image is in
color, the sky blue and the tracks field orange, just like one would find in real
life or if the image was a real photograph of runners about to take off. So though
the image is a cartoon, it still draws in real life elements to make the
audience feel the realness of the situation or to identify correctly the
scenery that is being depicted. The legs
of the athlete using performance enhancement drugs (PEDs) is exaggerated and
stupendously large, compared to his arms and body; and compared to the other
athlete standing beside him. “What is it ‘doping’?”: It is interesting that the
athlete is oblivious or rather faking it. This is because sports authorities,
like the International Amateur Athletic Federations (IAAF), FIFA and the
International Olympic Committee started testing for drugs in athletes long ago,
and here is this athlete obviously using PEDs but still on the pitch about to
perform. This cartoon targeted at athletes, sports authorities and the public as
a whole shows the loop holes and faultiness in drug testing. That is to say, though
the use of certain PEDs has been banned athletes still use them, and sports
authorities do not catch them all.
